Guangzhou Fishmarket

In Guangzhou (Canton), southern China, I was on my way back to the Hostel. I somewhat lost my way in the craze of messy and crowded “suburban” Guangzhou, close to Shamian Dao. I barely knew the direction in which I had to walk, so I turned right into one of the smaller side roads, in the hope to find my stay soon. It had rained the whole day and it still was cold and wet enough to make me wish being at the Hostel. I noticed only the same loud noises as everywhere in big cities, but then i saw all the people there, at some sort of harbour chatting with each other and making business. I was in the middle of what i thought was a fish market. I first took out my recorder and my mics, then also the camera and started recording the noise and shooting the mist.

I took a few pictures and also recorded 3 minutes, so in the smil-slideshow (you will need Quicktime), you can hear athmospherical sounds, the clicking noise of my d70 and even “talking” to some chinese about taking a picture of them.Enjoy!

[EDIT 18.5.] If you think, the black phases are due to a bad connection, you are wrong. My intention was, to give you a feeling of what i saw and heard there and therefore i tried with the best possible accuracy (as far as i understand smil) to time the clicking noise with the right picture i exactly took at this moment. So if you only see black, i did not take a picture the 10 seconds before.
And once again I can only urge you to listen with headphones. You loose out a lot if you don’t![/EDIT]
